College of Agriculture, Shimoga started in 1990 for B.Sc(Agri) course as part of ruralization of agricultural education under the University of Agril.Sciences, Bangalore and became part of the University of Agril. & Horticultural sciences, Shimoga from September 2012.The college campus is located at Navile about 5 km away from Shimoga town on Savalanga road. It is an education zone next to JNNCollege of Engineering and opposite to Bapuji Ayurvedic college . The campus has an area of 78 hactares with Zonal Agril. and Horticultural Research station and Krishi Vignana Kendra. The campus also has Areca nut research centre funded by Areca marketing societies in 2001 and diploma in Agril. Extension services for input dealers(DEASI) on self sustaining mode.
The college has well equipped laboratories for teaching and research purposes, computer laboratory, Agril.research information system(ARIS), computers with high speed internet connectivity through v- sat, permanent rain water harvesting structures, well established areca nut garden, lecture halls equipped with latest audio visual aids, well developed library with more than 11,000 accessions, CD roms, e library and net working facility, well developed hostel facility for both boys and girls, instructional farms for crop production, horticulture nurseries, well developed guesthouse for visitors, student counseling, programs on personality development and motivation are available.
At present college admits 100 under graduate students served through Karnataka education Administration. Post graduate programmes have been started in Agril.Entomology and Soil Science and Agril.Chemistry in 2002. At present six departments (Agril.Entomology, Soil Science and Agril.Chemistry, Agronomy, Genetics and Plant breeding, Plant pathology and Agril.Extension) offer M.Sc(Agri with an intake of six students , and except Agril.Extension other five departments offer Ph.D degree programmes with an intake of two students.
Shimoga is well connected by road and train facilities. Shimoga district has varied agroclimatic conditions congenial for growing various field and horticultural crops. The college would help the farming community in the state in general and Shimoga in particular by way of producing well trained man power, genuine agricultural inputs and information from time to time for over all development of rural community.
Is the present head quarters of the new University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shimoga. The college was established in the year 1990. It imparts undergraduate education in agriculture leading to B.Sc.(Agri) degree programme and Post-Graduate degree Programmes in the subjects of Agronomy, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Entomology, Plant Pathology and Agricultural Extension. One year Diploma (only Sundays) in Agricultural Extension Services to Input Dealers (DAESI) is also offered to input dealers. Ph.D. Programmes are offered in the disciplines of Agricultural Entomology, Agronomy, Genetic & Plant Breeding, Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry and Plant Pathology.
